Max Paley took out a loan of £15,000 in 2021 to launch This Charming Naan, a Smiths-inspired Indian Street Food business in Manchester. With 7 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, from restaurants to bars and music venues, Max had always dreamed of opening his own food business.
He was eventually inspired by the Northern music scene and decided to bring together his love of music and food to create a unique street food experience. Max used his loan to purchase the essential equipment to get the business off the ground, including outdoor trading gear and a pizza oven to keep up with the high demand for his Naan breads!
Currently based in the heart of the Manchester student foodie scene, Max does kitchen takeovers at Retro Bar where he serves a range of tasty classic curries with a Smiths twist, such as Girlfriend in a Korma, Madras is Murder and How Saag is Now, and now restrictions have eased, Max plans to expand his offering and strengthen the business’ music credentials by touring the country’s music festivals.
