Providing two state of the art i-sopods, a therapy room, quiet room and space for yoga and pilates, Floating Point Float Centre is Berkshire’s only dedicated floatation therapy centre.
Michael Cordova founded the company after becoming a regular user of a float centre when living in London. After moving to Reading and realising there were no similar services offered in the area he decided to take the plunge with his wife and, with the support of £10,000 from the Start Up Loans Company which allowed him to purchase floor space, he was able to set up Floating Point.
At the core of the business is the spaceship-like i-sopods, which are filled with 500kg of Epsom salt and then water, heated to the clients body temperature so they will float on top of the water with ease. This process creates the feeling of zero gravity in the pod.
According to Michael it has been said that one hour of floatation is the equivalent of 4 hours of sleep and in the gravity free environment the body is able to reputedly balance and heal internally. Floatation is also beneficial for pain management as it helps lessen chronic pain and reduces post-operation recovery times.
Float Point offers a personalised service, with the average float session lasting for around an hour and introductory packages including three different sessions. Michael has had a variety of different clientele use his facility, including those who have injury problems to semi-professional athletes and a premier league ice hockey team.
The business was a finalist for a ‘Best Complimentary Therapy Centre’ award in 2016, as well as being a WBBA finalist too, and has appeared in an array of press features for the likes of Heart FM and BBC News, as well as a lot of local publications.
Going forward Michael hopes to be a wellbeing centre that works for the local community and in the longer term he is eying up Cheltenham Spa as a potential site for another branch.
